Newport, Inc: From Bay to Beach This
exhibit brings to life the city at the time of incorporation in 1882 through photographs,
objects from the collection, and stories about the time. The exhibit includes
life-size stand-ups of Clarinda Copeland, who ran several stores and a rooming
house, and Sam Irvin, Nye Beach developer. Some of the most interesting objects
include a barrel washing machine, an 1894 bay front saloon ledger, maps of the
time, and items used in the Abbey House, and early bay front hotel. Other
displays include a traditional Victorian parlor, Kenneth Litchfield's law office,
and hand-crafted objects from the Society's collection. |
